Consolidation continues in the seed industry and today marks another acquisition in the independent seed company space. Cornelius Seed and Legend Seeds announced Monday their acquisition of Munson Hybrids.
“Both Cornelius Seed and Legend Seeds share our values,” said John Hennenfent, President and co-owner of Munson Hybrids in a recent press release. “There are more focused in knowing a farmer’s fields than knowing the corporate boardroom.”
Cornelius Seed will acquire the retails sales right of Munson Hybrids in Illinois and southern Wisconsin and Legend Seeds will gain sales rights in Central Wisconsin. The Galesburg production facilities will continue to operate independently under the oversite of owners John and Holly Hennenfent.
Financial arrangements of the deal were not disclosed. Muson Hybrids was founded in 1934 by Carl Munson and later purchased by the Hennenfents in 1999.
