On August 3, ARA member Centerra Co-op, based in Ashland, Ohio, held its 8th Annual Fueling the Cure golf outing at Hawk’s Nest golf course north of Wooster, Ohio. This year’s event raised more than $38,000, which puts the eight-year total at over $250,000 raised for cancer research at The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute on the campus of The Ohio State University.

Several years ago, Centerra Co-op, formerly Town & Country Co-op, along with four other agricultural cooperatives formed The Cooperatives for the Cure of Cancer Endowment Fund and have raised over $1,000,000 for the cause. The five cooperatives' main fundraising effort has been a propane delivery program where the co-op contributes $1.00 for every propane delivery which is then matched, on a voluntary basis, by the customer.

The propane match program, along with additional events such as golf outings, raffles, and employee match programs, are the driving forces behind their ongoing fund raising efforts.
