BASF Finalizes Bayer Vegetable Seeds Purchase

Thursday BASF officially closed on Nunhems, Bayer’s vegetable seeds business. This is one of many assets the company has acquired from Bayer this past year.

Nunhems which includes 24 crops and about 2,600 varieties of seeds. BASF also gained its research and development information and breeding systems with more than 100 unique breeding programs in more than 15 crops.

BASF says adding the vegetable seeds business enhances its global offer to farmers, strengthens its seed platform and complements the Agricultural Solutions portfolio. Closing this transaction completes the company’s acquisition of a range of assets from Bayer with combined 2017 sales of 2.2 billion euros. 

BASF paid 7.6 billion euro for all assets combined, including the field crops businesses, xarvio digital platform, certain herbicides, vegetable seeds and other assets.
