AgriTalk: Crop Tour Day 4

How are things fairing on the homestretch of the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour? Brian Grete, leader of the eastern leg of the tour, and Jeff Wilson, leader of the western leg, share their findings ahead of the big meeting in Minnesota Thursday night. Matt Jungman, director of trade shows for the Farm Progress Show previews the show.

Eastern Leg Update
Brian Grete, leader of the eastern leg of the Crop Tour, said the 2017 Illinois crop was variable, which was why the Pro Farmer estimate was off its mark. The highs, he said, were enough to offset the lows on the corn crop. Since the crop is so mature this year, Grete said this year it’s more about measuring yield, instead of potential like in 2017.

Western Leg Update
Biggest surprise in western Iowa for Jeff Wilson, leader of the western leg of the Crop Tour, was soybeans. In northern Iowa, thought the ponds in the fields were bigger in the soybean fields. On the corn side, Wilson noticed ear populations in western Iowa were down, but made it up in grain length and kernel rows.

Floating…tractors?
We’re going to be live all three days at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa. Matt Jungman, director of trade shows for Farm Progress Show, shares what visitors can see, including the floating tractor and what mergers will mean for the show.
