Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market
All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.
Compared to last week: Light volume reported ahead of the Holidays. Alfalfa
and grass sold steady. Demand is light to moderate with most end users bought
up till after the New Year. The open grazing conditions have allowed famers to
continue to graze their cattle out on cornstalks reducing the need for supplemental
feeding. The demand has softened for high quality grass with vast majority of
calves now weaned and started in the lot. This is the last report for 2014 due to
the Christmas and New Year's Holidays. Next avaiable report will be Friday
January 9th, 2015. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
