We are getting close to spring!

Here are some “hot off the press” data from our seed lab:

1)      Wheat:

a)      Germinations averaged 94%, with a range of 80-99%

b)      Seed counts (per pound) ranged from 12,700-18,200, with an average of 15,400

2)      Barley:

a)      Germinations averaged 93%, with a range of 88-98%

b)      Seed counts (per pound) ranged from 11,800-13,300, with an average of 12,400

Make sure you know the germ AND the seed count of your seed!

BOTH germination and seed count affect the seeding rate, but the seed count has a greater affect.

For example, here is a chart that illustrates the IMPORTANCE of knowing BOTH your seed count and your germination.
