2013 winter wheat meeting held in Draper

SDSU Extension will be holding a Winter Wheat Meeting in Draper on Aug. 27, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Auditorium in Draper and begin at 6:30 p.m. with a meal prepared by a local group of church women. There is no cost to attend.

Speakers will be Nathan Mueller, SDSU Extension Agronomist and Lisa Elliott, SDSU Extension Commodity Marketing Specialist.

Mueller will discuss changes to the recommended and acceptable/promising variety list, results of the Crop Performance Testing (CPT) trials, and discussing some highlights of the 2012-13 production year. Elliott will provide an outlook for wheat prices based on supply and demand as well as comments on other crops producers will be raising. She will also comment on potential changes in the crop insurance program.

New to SDSU Extension agronomy team, Chris Graham will attend this meeting. The new SDSU Extension Agronomist-West River, Graham has most recently worked at Cornell University and will be based at the West River Research and Extension Center in Rapid City. Graham is ready to begin conducting research and developing educational programming in western South Dakota and interested in getting acquainted with producers.

This Winter Wheat meeting has been running for more than 20 years.

"This meeting is considered one of the best on this topic," said Bob Fanning, SDSU Extension Plant Pathology Field Specialist. "It is well known for good food, good information and a great opportunity to network with fellow producers across a wide area."
