Soybean futures were mixed Friday, with sliding July values reflecting the cash market impact (i.e. reduced demand and active producer sales) of the recent price spike. Conversely, gains by the new crop contracts seemed to represent a reaction to the potential for slower plantings later this month. July soybean futures dove 23.25 cents to $14.7625/bushel at the Friday settlement, while July soyoil dipped 0.42 cents to 49.24 cents/pound, and July soybean meal dropped $8.8 lower to $428.2/ton.

The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) has launched an interactive Weed Management Map to help the state's soybean farmers more effectively combat glyphosate resistance.

Funded by the Illinois soybean checkoff, the online resource gives farmers access to detailed information about the most prevalent glyphosate-resistant weeds in their counties, including specific chemistry resistances.

The tool also provides a photo gallery of weeds at various growth stages and links to a variety of related websites, helping farmers more easily identify and address any occurrences in their own fields.

"Our new Weed Management Map confronts the growing issue of glyphosate-resistant weeds that are plaguing our state's soybean farmers," said ISA Production Committee Chairman Rowen Ziegler. "The proactive approach to identifying and battling individual weed resistance takes the element of the unknown out of the equation. Our goal is that the tool will help farmers realize better soybean yields and profitability."

The map, found at www.ilsoy.org/wrm, is free, with no registration or login required.

Currently, the map details the occurrence of the three most dominant glyphosate-resistant weeds in Illinois; common waterhemp, horseweed (marestail) and Palmer amaranth.

However, ISA plans to expand the map's content to include even more weed species in the future.

The map was developed through partnership between ISA and research teams at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the University of Illinois, and is the result of checkoff-funded research studies established to isolate and track first occurrences of glyphosate resistance.
