The Fertilizer Institute honors five farmers, retailers

Five American farmers and their fertilizer retail partners have been named as 4R Grower Advocates for 2015 by the Fertilizer Institute (TFI). The winners represent growers and retailers across the nation who are dedicated to the 4Rs of nutrient stewardship - using the right nutrient source at the right rate, the right time and in the right place.

Soybeans and nitrogen fertilizer, again

In April 2014, Emerson Nafziger, University of Illinos, wrote on the topic on N fertilizer on soybeans, reporting that research at the University of Illinois has rarely shown a benefit in yield to applying N fertilizer during the middle part of the season. But it seems that some people, perhaps reacting to testimonials of high yields after using N fertilizer in the high-yield conditions of 2014 remain convinced that adding N fertilizer “makes high yields higher.”

SDSU biologist uncovering path to drought-tolerant soybeans

Hot, dry conditions can wreak havoc on a field of soybeans. According to the National Center for Soybean Technology, “drought is the greatest threat to profitability.” Work underway at South Dakota State University may change that.

2015 Fluid Forum recap

Talking Stick Resort was again the site for the 24th Annual Fluid Forum held from February 15 to 17 in Scottsdale, Ariz., as researchers and ag people from the United States and overseas gathered for two days of sharing the latest in field research to improve crop yields.
