Soybeans and nitrogen fertilizer, again

In April 2014, Emerson Nafziger, University of Illinos, wrote on the topic on N fertilizer on soybeans, reporting that research at the University of Illinois has rarely shown a benefit in yield to applying N fertilizer during the middle part of the season. But it seems that some people, perhaps reacting to testimonials of high yields after using N fertilizer in the high-yield conditions of 2014 remain convinced that adding N fertilizer “makes high yields higher.”

SDSU biologist uncovering path to drought-tolerant soybeans

Hot, dry conditions can wreak havoc on a field of soybeans. According to the National Center for Soybean Technology, “drought is the greatest threat to profitability.” Work underway at South Dakota State University may change that.

Applying nitrogen fertilizer to wheat in early spring

Early spring is the time wheat growers implement nitrogen (N) fertilization strategies. This means estimating the amount of N needed and estimating how much of the N might be lost due to excessive rainfall and saturated soils.
