Anthem (FMC) -- pyroxasulfone + fluthiacet-methyl
Fluthiacet-methyl is the active ingredient in FMC’s Cadet. Anthem can be applied preplant, preemergence, or early postemergence to corn up to V4 corn. This product is expected to be registered in soybean at some future date.
- Rate: 8 to 11 fl oz product/acre (equivalent to 0.56 to 0.7 fl oz Cadet + 2.4 to 3.4 oz Zidua)
-- 8 fl oz on coarse soils, 8 to 10 fl oz on medium soils, and 10 to 11 fl oz on fine soils
- Controls grass and broadleaf weeds, including pigweeds; however, if applied postemergence, only Cadet has activity. Cadet primarily provides control of emerged velvetleaf. Cadet does not have soil activity, thus the weed spectrum of Anthem is very similar to Zidua.
- Compatible with liquid and dry fertilizers.
Anthem ATZ (FMC) -- pyroxasulfone + fluthiacet-methyl + atrazine
Anthem ATZ can also be applied preplant, preemergence, or early postemergence to corn to the V4 stage. This product will be limited to corn because it contains atrazine.
- Rate: 1.75 to 3 pt product/acre (equivalent 6.5 to 11 fl oz Anthem + 0.9 to 1.5 lb atrazine)
-- 1.75 to 2 pt on coarse soils, 2 to 2.5 pt on medium soils, and 2 to 3 pt on fine soils
- Controls grass and broadleaf weeds, having broader spectrum of broadleaf weed species control than Anthem because of the addition of atrazine. Examples of increased control compared to Anthem would include improved morningglory, velvetleaf, common lambsquarters, and kochia. If applied postemergence to weeds, include crop oil concentrate, methylated seed oil, or a nonionic surfactant to enhance the foliar activity of the atrazine component.
- Compatible with liquid and dry fertilizers.
Fierce (Valent) -- pyroxasulfone + flumioxazin
Flumioxazin is the active ingredient in Valent’s Valor herbicide. Fierce is an early preplant herbicide. It may also eventually be registered for use on soybeans and cotton.
- Single use rate: 3 oz product/acre, 76% WDG
– Flumioxazin 33.5% and pyroxasulfone 42.5%
- Equivalent to 2 oz Valor SX and 1.7 oz Zidua Must be applied 7 to 30 days early preplant to field corn in no-till or minimum-till, or 30 days preplant in conventional-till.
- Do not use on soils with less than 1% organic matter unless an activation rainfall has occurred between application and planting.
- Controls grass and broadleaf weeds, especially pigweeds, and provides enhanced control of velvetleaf, morningglory, common lambsquarters, and common ragweed compared to pyroxasulfone-alone products.
- May be tank-mixed with several other herbicides to assist burndown activity. See tankmix partner labels for recommendations.
