The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Protection and Programs Directorate/Office of Infrastructure Protection is hosting a live, 90-minute virtual roundtable designed to increase awareness of and the ability to respond to active shooter situations. The roundtable will be live Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. (EDT).

Active shooters engage in killing or attempting to kill innocent and unsuspecting people in both private and public areas. In many cases, there is no pattern or method to the selection of victims by an active shooter, and these situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly.

To help you prepare for the possibility of an active shooter incident, the Active Shooter Awareness Virtual Roundtable will raise awareness of common triggers and characteristics of active shooters, and help you understand how to prepare for potential incidents.

This free, online interactive roundtable will include video, commentary by behavioral and security experts, and a question-and-answer session. This roundtable will better prepare you to deal with an active shooter situation and to recognize dangerous behavior before it turns deadly.

This live presentation will provide participants with information about:

 *     The history of active shooters;

*     Common triggers and characteristics of active shooters;

*     How to recognize potential violence indicators; and

*     Actions to take to prevent and prepare for potential active shooter incidents.

The target audience for this virtual roundtable is the full-range of critical infrastructure stakeholders including those representing the private sector, government agencies, and trade associations. Employees of all levels from across all industries are encouraged to attend.

If you are interested in participating in this event, please visit http://www.visualwebcaster.com/event.asp?id=81820 to register.

A limited number of phone lines will be available for participants, so please plan to listen online using either your computer's speakers or headphones.

Registration closes Sept. 23, 2011.
