Rice farmers' lawsuit against Bayer CropScience opened last week in St. Louis. The farmers are claiming damages from experimental varieties of genetically modified rice that cross bred with their crops.


The trial is expected to last several weeks. The case stemmed for an incident in August 2006 when trace amounts of Bayer's LibertyLink rice were found in U.S. long-grain rice stocks.
