Indiana Farm Bureau livestock specialist Greg Slipher reminded retailers that a new requirement for Indiana applicators of manure fertilizer has gone into effect. Fertilizer applicators who apply livestock manure on fields are now required to go through a training and licensing program. Applicators in Indiana will now need to have a permit to apply livestock manure as fertilizer.

Under the program enacted by the Indiana General Assembly last year, all applicators must undergo training and licensing this year. Slipher said Farm Bureau is working with the Cooperative Extension Service to set up training programs in local areas this year.
