The U.S. Justice Department has sent questions to Monsanto as part of its investigation into the company, which was sparked by anti-competition complaints from rival DuPont.



The request Monsanto received about three months ago wasn't a formal request, but was a civil investigative demand, Lee Quarles, a spokesman for St. Louis-based Monsanto, said Thursday. Other agriculture companies may also be receiving questions after the Justice Department in August said it would examine competition in several farming markets, he said.
