Much of the talk at the Sept. 7-10 Florida Joint Tomato Conference concerned the tomato industry's leadership in standardizing food safety audits.

Since 2008, Florida and California tomato leaders have worked to harmonize inspection standards to eliminate "audit fatigue" through a single audit standard.


Earlier this year, the two leading U.S. tomato producing states brought auditors to Florida to work to replace numerous audits growers and packinghouses undergo.
