The National Academy of Sciences released a report last week that the Florida orange industry may need to look to biotechnology in order to overcome the devastating citrus greening disease.


Since it arrived in the state in 2005, the disease has spread to nearly every orange-growing county in Florida. It is spread by an aphid, which is from Asia. Farmers and scrambled to cull the insects and infected trees, but to no avail since there is no cure.
