Medical exams needed for interstate truckers

The U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) recently announced a new rule that will go into effect in June 2014 requiring interstate truckers and bus drivers to pass a DOT certified medical examination in order to maintain their commercial driver’s license and legally drive a commercial motor vehicle, the Agricultural Retailers Association reported.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) rule states a driver must pass an examination every two years by an FMCSA certified health professional. To be eligible, health professionals must register with the newly formed National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners which verifies health professionals are trained and tested on the specific physical qualifications that affect a driver’s ability to safely operate the vehicle.

Mr. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood be honest and tell us and the
Dr.'s this is just another way to pay a salary. Safety is what you are hiding behind.
If a Dr. doesn't know what it takes to safely drive he shouldn't have gotten his
Certification in the first place. D.O.T. is quickly becoming a Gestapo agency. Hiding
behind safety, when some of the things I have seen go completly the other direction.

You are going to rule us into non existance.
