CHS Inc., an energy, grains and foods company and the nation's leading farmer-owned cooperative, announced it has acquired the Tomen Grain facility at Pekin, Ill., from Tomen Grain Company, a majority-owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho America Inc.

"CHS is actively expanding its grain origination base along key, inland river markets," said Rick Dusek, CHS vice president, grain marketing-North America. "The Tomen grain handling and barge loading facility on the Illinois River provides additional origination to help supply our Myrtle Grove, La., grain export terminal to meet growing customer demand."

CHS markets more than 2 billion bushels of grain annually to customers in 60 countries.

Dusek said CHS will buy corn and soybeans from local grain elevators and farmers as well as provide by-product elevation services.

The Pekin facility provides truck to barge loading and storage capacity of more than 150,000 bushels.

CHS, a Fortune 100 company, supplies energy, crop nutrients, grain marketing services, livestock feed, food and food ingredients, along with business solutions including insurance, financial and risk management services.

The company operates petroleum refineries/pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes Cenex brand refined fuels, lubricants, propane and renewable energy products.

Toyota Tsusho America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corp., which was founded as a trading and supply-chain specialist of the Toyota Group.

TAI has been operating in North America since 1961. Over the past four decades, it has evolved from a trader in a limited number of commodities and finished goods to a multi-business enterprise.

As a multi-business enterprise, Toyota Tsusho America combines international trading with an expansive range of domestically targeted functions (eg. supply-chain services, intermediate goods processing, etc.). The company's operating divisions pursue a broad mix of business opportunities related to both industrial and consumer products and services.
