AGCO to retire SpraCoupe sprayers in 2013

AGCO  |   January 7, 2013

Citing EPA compliance and diminishing volumes resulting in an ever-changing industry landscape, AGCO has announced it will discontinue production of its line of SpraCoupe compact, self-propelled sprayers for the North American market in 2013.

Mark Sharitz, AGCO’s marketing director for application equipment, said production of all SpraCoupe 2013 models – including the 4460, 4660, 7460 and 7660 models – will continue through May, 2013. AGCO will continue to manufacture SpraCoupe parts, which will remain available to customers along with professional service support from their SpraCoupe dealers, he said.

For the past 50 years, the SpraCoupe brand has served farmers who want smaller professional-grade self-propelled application equipment for applying fertilizer and crop protection products on their own. However, the North American customer base for this segment has been shrinking, reflecting fewer, smaller farms and a growing number of larger farming operations, fueling demand for larger, more productive machines. Sharitz said these market shifts combined with the cost for Tier 4 compliance have made it impractical to continue the SpraCoupe brand after the 2013 model year.

“Our SpraCoupe brand has enjoyed a proud, 50-year heritage of serving farmers’ application needs, and we thank our customers for their confidence in our quality AGCO products,” Sharitz said. “This was a difficult decision, but a necessary step for AGCO to maintain its leading position in the application industry.”

Sharitz noted that AGCO’s commitment to the application industry remains strong, evidenced by the company’s industry-leading RoGator and TerraGator branded machines, which are backed by the most knowledgeable sales and support team in the business.

Very dissapointing to hear that AGCO is going to discontinue the Spra Coupe line of sprayers. They are very popular here in Australia in our cropping area. They suit our heavy clay soils due to their light weight. Reliability, simple design & ease of use are other factors.
Not happy.

I have been selling Spra Coupes for the last 25 years. AGCO is getting rid of the Spra Coupe line and their dealers so we are not competing against their AG Chem dealers. This is not right!

Nothing wrong or obsolete with the SpraCoupe. Light weight, agile & relatively durable. The demise of SpraCoupe is a result of AGCO's over pricing the machine, exceptionally poor marketing of the brand and failure over the years to re-invest any of the Coupe's substantial profits into product development and updates.

We just bought a 4460 this past year. I hate to here that they are quiting making these machine. They are good for smaller farmers, Because everyone don't farm big acre's. I hope they keep parts & service.

I would like to see those shrinking numbers. In my area spra coupe is probably 3 to 1.
The 4660 seems proven for reliability, every time I talk to a 4660 owner I do not get
bad feedback. I just ordered one in October with a build date in March and only sold
ones where being built, no spec ones. Sounds pretty good to me if I owned Spra
Coupe. I wonder if the logic is to stop the small farmer from buying a smaller outfit
and force him to hire a custom sprayer. Hopefully a Rogator. Ha Ha

Sounds like a mistake to me. Coupes are a great little sprayer and it was a bad day when Agco took them over. They have been harder to find good dealers with parts and knowledge sine Agco took them over. I have to wonder how long it will be before they do the same to Massey, a tractor which has lead the way for many years. Massey has one of the best combines on the market, having owned several over the last 30 years, but everytime I go to the farm show Agco seems to be pushing Gleaners harder than Masseys. Agco pushed the old Allis line for years just adding the Agco decal to a Massey until they stop selling Agco. Some of the top people at Agco need to going out into the real world and run some of thier equipment themselves to make better decisions. Just my point of view.
