BIG PICTURE
By Doane Economist
Statistics Canada last week released its Final 2012 Crop Production report. Its production estimate for wheat at 27.205 million tonnes was an increase of 500,000 tonnes from its October forecast. The new estimate was within the range of market expectations between 26.5 mmt and 27.4 mmt. The crop output compares to the 2011 crop at 25.288 million tonnes. USDA is carrying that previous Stats Can forecast in its global wheat production table. We would look for USDA to adjust up its forecast to match the Canadian report. The canola production report at 13.309 million tonnes was less than expected. Trade views were for an increase on average to 13.7 million from the previous forecast at 13.359 million. The crop output compares to the 2011 crop at 14.608 million.
