BIG PICTURE
By Doane Economist
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARE) is projecting the wheat crop to be 29.5 million tonnes, up from the previous forecast of 28.3 million tonnes. Harvesting of the winter wheat crop is virtually complete and key growing regions had completed harvest ahead of the onset of heavy rains. The increased production forecast is more than USDA’s latest estimate of 28.3 million tonnes. ABARE’s wheat export forecast was revised up to 22.3 million tonnes from 21.6 million previously. Australia is the fourth largest wheat exporting country.

Increase Nodulation and Nitrogen Fixation with VAULT® HP plus INTEGRAL®
Include multi-action VAULT® HP plus INTEGRAL® containing fresh, high-counts of rhizobia in a complete soybean seed-treatment program to help growers increase the nodulation and the nitrogen-fixation potential of each soybean plant. Without sufficient active rhizobia in the soil, fewer nitrogen-fixing root nodules develop which can cause a soybean plant to produce insufficient nitrogen, limiting its yield potential.
Three years of yield trial data across key soybean states shows that on average, VAULT HP plus INTEGRAL produced 2.2 bushels more per acre than non-inoculated soybeans. Additionally, VAULT HP plus INTEGRAL has delivered a 1.0 bushel per acre advantage over a key competitive product.
The triple BioStacked® VAULT HP plus INTEGRAL system pairs a patented biological performance enhancer and a fresh high-count rhizobia inoculant with INTEGRAL biological fungicide. These components work together to deliver improved nitrogen fixation; extended protection from key soil-borne diseases; and enhanced root vigor, nodulation and nutrient uptake.
For 2012, the VAULT HP plus INTEGRAL system features a new enhancer/extender formulation to help increase the on-seed survival time of rhizobia when used with popular fungicide and insecticide treatments. The new formulation also aids in the reduction of bridging/clumping issues sometimes experienced with seed treatment.
Fresh, active high count rhizobia, enhanced nitrogen-fixation potential, and improved treater-friendly application make VAULT HP plus INTEGRAL the right choice for soybean growers ... and a profitable business choice for soybean treaters.

Should I reduce residue to reduce corn disease?
The presence of some foliar corn diseases is partially explained by the presence of "residue." However, that increase is not completely explained by the presence of residue and for some diseases the presence of residue does not even factor into the appearance of disease. This makes a hypothetical "plowing it all under" tenuous at best. Full story.
