USDA released a new Crop Progress report on Oct.31. Corn harvest progress climbed to 78 percent as of Oct. 30, up 13 points from the previous week. This compares to 90 percent a year ago and 67 percent for the 10-year average. Because of rain and even snow in the eastern Corn Belt from Indiana and Michigan to Ohio and Pennsylvania, harvest is lagging 1-2 weeks behind normal. USDA reports soybean harvesting progress is at 87 percent complete versus the 10-year average at 83 percent and 95 percent last year. USDA reported the cotton crop harvest at 55 percent complete, up 11 points from the previous week. Winter wheat planting progress increased to 89 percent, up from 82 percent a week ago and compares to 91 percent a year ago and 89 percent for the 10-year average.
