Last week, the Agricultural Retailers Association and other industry groups sent a letter to the leadership of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee asking for a hearing on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) proposed changes to the current Hours of Service rule. The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on December 29 and comments will be due on February 28. ARA has been working with a diverse coalition to submit comments to the docket in addition to the Congressional letter.

Two issues of concern for ARA members would be the minimizing of actual driving hours from 11 to 10 per day and the altering of the 34-hour restart provision. The 34-hour timeframe would go unchanged but a driver would have to account for two night rest periods (Midnight to 6am) during that 34-hour restart provision.
