The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the USDA is seeking comments on the determination of non-regulated status for High Oleic Soybeans before Nov. 2.

The specific high-oleic soybeans would provide nutritional benefits with broader applications than other available soybean oil products if authorities unregulated the trait. With more than 75 percent oleic acid, the stability of the oil is significantly increased. High oleic soybean oil is a trans fat solution with lower saturated fats and increased monounsaturated fat over commodity soybean oil. In the industrial sector, it would bring a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based products.
