Less than eight weeks after announcing the retirement of Geoff Southwood, the Board of Directors of United Farmers of Alberta Co-Operative Limited (UFA) has named Dallas Thorsteinson as its new President and CEO. Thorsteinson, who is currently UFA's vice president of Farm Supply Division, will officially take the reins on March 25.

Thorsteinson has been with UFA for three years. During his tenure the Farm Supply division has experienced double-digit growth each year despite the impact of prolonged drought and the devastation created by mad cow disease. He oversaw the development of the company's new flagship Regional Centres in Red Deer and Camrose and has introduced a number of initiatives to strengthen the organization's value proposition, service offering and brand throughout rural Alberta.

Thorsteinson has a broad background in retail, agriculture and the petroleum business. Throughout his career he has held senior positions at North West Company, Petro-Canada and Loblaws.
