WASHINGTON, D.C. - "The American Farm Bureau Federation is pleased that Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) has been elected ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee. Sen. Roberts has proven his commitment to farmers and ranchers through his many years of agriculture committee service in both the House and Senate.

"Sen. Roberts' priorities align very well with Farm Bureau's. We are happy to hear that his objectives for the 112th Congress will focus on maintaining the production agriculture safety net, expanding trade opportunities for farmers and ranchers, conducting oversight of regulations that threaten the competitiveness of America's farmers and maintaining the security and science based sustainability of food and agriculture sectors.

"As Congress soon begins work on the next farm bill, we are pleased Sen. Roberts will be a key leader in those discussions. It would be hard to find anyone on Capitol Hill with more expertise and knowledge in writing farm bills than Sen. Roberts. We congratulate him on his new post."
