RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- Across the Midwest, corn crops are looking good overall. Optimal planting weather during early spring means crops are ahead of where they were in the 2009 season, corn fields have great stands and growers are now focusing on how to best maximize their corn yield potential.

With the uncertainty that comes with farming, growers could face damaging weather and disease outbreaks this summer. A well-timed application of Headline AMP(TM) fungicide will help growers protect their corn crops and achieve high yields.

In replicated university and seed company trials from 2007 to 2009, Headline AMP shows consistent yield advantages of more than 11.3 bushels per acre over untreated checks. Headline AMP also had a 4.3 bushel per acre advantage over competitive fungicides tested.

"The 2010 spring season was great to many growers -- allowing them to get the crop in the ground early, resulting in a strong start to the growing season and a healthy crop," said Nick Fassler, technical marketing manager at BASF. "In general, early planting dates result in higher yielding crops. Growers who want to have record yields with this season's crop should protect their investment with Headline AMP."

Headline AMP is a combination of the same active ingredient in Headline(R) fungicide with the addition of a unique, best-in-class triazole. The result is a broad-spectrum fungicide that prevents disease, provides Plant Health benefits and helps maximize yield.

High plant populations like those seen in the Midwest this year can translate to substantial yields at harvest, but they can also add additional stressors to the plants.

As the season progresses growers can anticipate more disease pressure and overall plant stress because more plants are competing for sunlight, nutrients and water. An application of Headline AMP can help growers protect their crop's health by preventing disease and improving Plant Health.

Even with a good spring to get the crops started, a hot summer can lead to a host of diseases affecting the corn crop. Headline AMP protects corn from a multitude of debilitating crop diseases that hinder corn health, yield and harvestability. Headline AMP has excellent activity on a large number of corn foliar diseases, including gray leaf spot, Southern corn rust, anthracnose and Northern corn leaf blight.
