Fargo, N.D. -- North Dakota Farmers Union is moving forward with plans to open the Agraria Restaurant, a farmer-owned fine dining establishment that focuses on awareness and promotion of the American family farmer.

The first location will open this summer in Washington, D.C.

"We are very excited that Agraria is moving forward, and our first restaurant will be opening in the nation's capital," said Robert Carlson, president of NDFU. "This is an opportunity for producers to earn a greater share of the U.S. food dollar and for consumers to learn more about American family farms and ranches."

The Agraria Restaurant will be located in the Washington Harbour complex in lower Georgetown. The menu will feature contemporary American cuisine with an emphasis on meat and pasta dishes, as well as seasonal dishes based on available produce from family farmers across the country.

Paul Anthony Morello, formerly of Les Halles, has been named executive chef, and through his unique culinary creations and the restaurant's family farmer sourced products, Agraria will provide its guests a memorable educational and flavorful experience, NDFU said.

The Magnate Group LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based project management firm, will oversee the development and operational aspects of its business in key markets. The restaurant is being designed by the award-winning Adamstein & Demetriou Architecture firm.
