Caterpillar, a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, announced Tuesday that it will lay off about 475 people, including about 300 in Peoria, Ill., the Chicago Tribune reported.

The company said it is consolidating several units within its customer services support division, according to a statement from the company. Cuts will affect managers and support staff, the Chicago Tribune reported.

It is unknown when the layoffs will be completed.

In June, the company announced it would lay off 50 workers at its East Peoria, Ill., campus. At that time, the company blamed the layoffs on a downturn in demand for mining equipment. The announcement in June brought the total of workers laid off to 270, but with the new announcement, it brings the total to 745 for 2105.

The company employs about 3,900 workers at the site, which is its main manufacturing hub, Reuters reported.
