A coalition of more than 80 agricultural industry organizations, universities and others recently signed a letter to Congress stating opposition to any budget or appropriations amendments that would “undermine agricultural producers’ access to technology or restrict or malign the commercial development of modern plant or animal agricultural applications, including biotechnology.”
Livestock organizations endorsing the letter include the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, American Dairy Science Association, National Association for the Advancement of Animal Science, National Milk Producers Federation, National Renderers Association, Poultry Science Association, Texas Poultry Federation and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association. The list also includes universities and national groups such as the Farm Bureau Federation and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.
The letter emphasizes the importance of innovation in agriculture to enable plant and animal producers to boost production, providing consumers with affordable, nutritious food while using less land and conserving resources.
We ask that Congress help advance the American tradition of innovation by opposing legislative actions to restrict agricultural technology development, to hinder farmers’ access to modern agricultural tools, or to malign advancements in plant and animal agricultural applications that are helping to meet current and future food production challenges.
