Bt technology has a two-decade track record as a useful tool on the farm. Bt resistance is a problem that no farmer wants to face. Yet it has lurked as a threat across the Corn Belt since 2012.
Farm Journal Pulse wanted to know – how pervasive is Bt resistance in 2016? A total of 1,267 farmers responded to the question, “Have you experienced Bt resistant insects on your farm?” According to the results, a majority of farmers say they have not yet experienced the problem firsthand.
There appears to be no pattern of occurrences of Bt resistance, according to the poll results. “Yes” answers were scattered in parts of the eastern and western Corn Belt, Southwest, Delta and Southeast regions.
