Horizon Ethanol, LLC, has begun construction on its ethanol plant near Jewell, Iowa. The plant will process over 21 million bushels of corn into 60 million gallons of ethanol and 178,000 tons of distillers grains annually. The plant is expected to employ approximately 40 people.



The plant is being built by Broin Companies of Sioux Falls, S.D. "This regional effort will be rewarded with one of the most technologically advanced, economically enhanced, environmentally friendly ethanol production facilities in the nation," said Jeff Broin, CEO of Broin Companies. "Advances in design, research, construction, microbiology, and technology made by our firm over the past 20-plus years make this facility one of the most efficient ethanol plants in the world."



Currently, 84 ethanol plants nationwide have the capacity to produce over 3.75 billion gallons annually. There are 16 ethanol plants and two major expansions under construction with a combined annual capacity of nearly 790 million gallons.
