BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- GROWMARK and eight of its FS member cooperatives acquired the business and inventory of Tri-County Petroleum Inc. The acquisition includes the fuels and lubricant business located in the southern Illinois towns of Greenville, Hamel, Pierron, Red Bud, Vandalia, and Wood River. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

FS member cooperatives will service fuel accounts in 14 counties. They include: AgriPride FS, Inc., Nashville, Ill.; Effingham-Clay Service Company, Effingham, Ill.; Gateway FS, Inc., Red Bud, Ill.; M & M Service Company, Carlinville, Ill.; Madison Service Company, Alhambra, Ill.; St. Clair Service Company, Belleville, Ill.; South Central FS, Inc., Vandalia; and Tri-County FS, Inc., Jerseyville, Ill.

GROWMARK Lubricants, Bloomington, Ill., purchased the Extreme Lubricants Brand and will service all of the lubricant accounts.

Shelly Kruse, GROWMARK vice president, Midwest Retail & Acquisitions, said the acquisition strengthens the GROWMARK System through collaboration between local FS member cooperatives and GROWMARK Energy. "This will allow local cooperatives to work more efficiently as part of the broader GROWMARK System, to serve this expanded market. We have a strong heritage of being a reliable supplier of refined fuels and lubricants. Adding Tri-County Petroleum's business strengthens our heritage and provides customers ongoing access to quality products," she said.

Tri-County Petroleum, Inc., was established in 1978 and provided fuels and lubricant products to 14 counties in south-central Illinois and the metropolitan St. Louis, Mo., area.

GROWMARK is a regional cooperative with annual sales of $6.1 billion (FY 2009 data) providing agriculture-related products and services and grain marketing in the Midwest and Ontario, Canada. FS brand farm supplies and related services are also marketed to farmers in the northeastern United States and by GROWMARK subsidiaries.
