Cotton acreage intentions came in lower than people had expected and but up slightly from 2004. Producers say they will plant 13.8 million acres to cotton this year, up 156,000 from last year. Most of the increase was in the Mid-South region. Farmers in Arkansas boosted acreage by 70,000, Louisiana acreage was up 120,000, and producers in Mississippi say they will add 140,000. Cotton acreage will be down in the far west and Texas farmers will cut cotton by 149,000 acres. Cotton acreage will be up in the Carolinas, but down in Georgia.
