Communication Technologies, Inc. (COMTek), a provider of information technology (IT) services to the federal government and private companies, has launched the new $9 million phase of its ongoing work on behalf of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency to maintain 2,400 servers and nearly 7,500 printers in about 2,500 USDA offices nationwide.

The new contract for COMTek comes on top of a four-year-old USDA award of $2.04 million covering administration and support for a 2,400 user network in St. Louis. The most recent $9 million contract award to COMTek to provide service on servers and printers is the second phase of an earlier 2001 USDA contract with COMTek worth a total of $17.4 million.

Altogether, COMTek now maintains for USDA a total of 2,441 AS400 servers and 7,396 IBM printers. COMTek is responsible for servicing more than 2,400 USDA sites nationwide and deploys a field support staff of 35 to get the job done.
