A motion to dismiss a BSE-related class-action lawsuit against Ridley Inc. was denied Thursday in Ontario Superior Court, accroding to a release from the company.

"We are disappointed with today's ruling on our preliminary motion," said Steve VanRoekel, Ridley CEO, "but we remain confident in our defence of the case on the merits. We will continue to vigorously defend the lawsuits at each and every stage of the litigation as it progresses."

In April 2005, Ridley and the Government of Canada were named defendants in proposed class action lawsuits filed in four Canadian provinces. These lawsuits sought damages for losses allegedly incurred by Canadian cattle producers as a result of international bans on the importation of Canadian beef and cattle.
