Agricore United and AgriPro have signed off on a new long-term wheat development agreement, reinforcing a 15-year close working relationship.

Under the new agreement, AgriPro will continue to focus on breeding wheat varieties that bring value to western Canadian farmers. Agricore United, through its leading seed brand, Proven(R) Seed, will focus on novel approaches to the distribution and marketing of these innovative new varieties.

As part of the agreement, Kevin McCallum leaves his role as Senior Research Agronomist with Proven Seed to focus full time specializing in wheat breeding for AgriPro.

To date, the collaboration between Agricore United and AgriPro has been very successful. There have been six varieties supported for registration since 1999. Highlights include: the industry leading Canadian Prairie Spring (CPS) products such as Proven 5700PR and Proven 5701PR and, most recently, the Canadian Western Red Spring (CWRS) variety Proven 5602HR, which is currently in seed multiplication and will not be offered for sale until 2006. The two companies have also collaborated to produce BW 295, a variety being considered for contract registration that Warburton's, a British baker, has identified as providing them a with superior bread product.
