Results are in for World Ag Expo's Top-10 New Products competition. The winners will be showcased Feb. 11-13, 2014, during the 47th annual World Ag Expo in Tulare, Calif.

A group of judges made up of farmers, ranchers and industry professionals selected the Top-10 New Products.

AgVu by Advanced Reconnaissance Corporation. A new type of color aerial image called AgVu offers farmers the ability to detect crop problems earlier to make timelier, better informed crop management decisions. The map is based on subtle variations in the wavelengths of light reflected by plants during crop development and changes in the field.

"AgVu highlights early indicators of yield, plant health, crop maturity and areas of the field where the crop is experiencing some type of stress, such as disease, insect pressure, nutrient deficiency, heat or lack of water," says Mark Westfield, CEO of Advanced Reconnaissance Corporation. AgVu is available on a subscription basis for $1-$2 per acre.

Bandit Xpress by Automated Ag Systems.

The three-wheel Bandit Xpress is a self-propelled, self-steering platform where up to four workers can harvest or maintain fruit trees more safely and more productively. The unit features two adjustable height platforms -one at each end. Workers can harvest the tree from top to bottom in a single pass and collect fruit in bags as they go. A mechanical auto-steering system eliminates the need for a driver for the machine.

"It makes the work much easier and far less tiring so pickers can work longer hours during harvest to get ahead of any weather threats," says J.J. Dagorret, owner, Automated Ag Systems.

Bin Bot by Mack Robotics Inc.

Miniature in size but big in performance, the Bin Bot is a unique skid-steering electric robot which handles grain, cleanup and maintenance work inside bins and other confined spaces where it's unsafe and illegal for workers to enter.

"It can work efficiently in some of the most dangerous places for a dust explosion to prevent human injuries and death, particularly in commercial grain facilities and large farm grain handling operations," says farmer-inventor Jerome Mack. The Bin Bot replaces workers inside bins to move and free clogged and broken power sweeps. It can also dislodge grain stuck to bin walls to prevent grain avalanches and for various bin cleaning and maintenance chores.

The new online software program CAFOweb enables operators of confined animal feeding operations to protect water quality from nutrient contamination by making real-time, science-based management decisions when applying green water, manure solids and chemical fertilizers to fields. CAFOweb predicts the rate and timing of nutrient applications in real time. This allows the operator to make informed nutrient management decisions, says Tara Vander Dussen, CAFOweb executive director.

CAFOweb analyzes reams of data to alert the operator when approaching the threshold for nitrogen contamination of surface water, groundwater and soils in a particular field before it occurs. The operator can then take action to manage nutrient applications to prevent an environmental issue.

CultiClean by Sutton Agricultural Enterprises Inc.

CultiClean is a unique implement which combines the soil-mulching features of a rototiller with the weed-killing effectiveness of fire. It offers growers of high density vegetable crops a hot, new alternative to conventional cultivation tools and herbicides for weed control.

CultiClean not only forms perfect planting beds for your crop, but also kills weeds and their seeds in the top few inches of soil, says Bob Sutton of Sutton Agricultural Enterprises. Flames from a propane burner superheat the soil as two rototillers prepare a very uniform, practically weed-free seedbed. The implement is pulled by a minimum 90-horsepower tractor.

FPM300 by DeLaval

A new automated, mechanical feed management solution gives dairy and beef producers a simple, more effective alternative to hand brooms, tractor-mounted blades and even robotic systems to push feed closer to animals throughout the day. When feeding, cattle tend to move feed out of reach.

The DeLaval Feed Pusher FPM300 pushes the forage back into place with a bi-directional steel plow attached to a rail mounted on the concrete feed curb found on most operations. By giving animals more consistent access to their nutrition source, the FPM300 can increase dry matter intake and improve herd health and productivity, says Mark Futcher of DeLaval.

GeoBlu Explorer by GeoBlu Services

This new lightweight, battery-powered unmanned aerial vehicle gives farmers and ranchers an eye in the sky, enabling them to make quick, easy work of a wide range of visual monitoring or remote sensing chores, from scouting crops and tracking livestock to inspecting storm damage.

The GeoBlu Explorer offers a time-saving, practical alternative to walking fields to assess crop conditions or jumping onto an ATV to check on a herd of cattle, says Jared Siegler, owner of GeoBlu Services. It can also be used to spot symptoms of disease or other threats to crop productivity, which the human eye can't detect.

Hammer by Hammer Works Manufacturing LLC.

The ML5.8 is a long-handle, zinc-composite hammer that exceeds any brass or ball peen hammer available in today's market. This innovative hammer, when striking hard objects, doesn't damage what it hits, doesn't create sparks and doesn't vibrate. This prevents the loss of control and reduces the odds of injury.

There's no energy to create a spark-a critical feature when working around flammable materials. The 5-1/2-pound hammer, made by Hammer Works Manufacturing, LLC, develops 12 more pounds of impact force than a conventional 8-pound sledgehammer. The ML5.8, including the grip, comes with a lifetime warranty.
