Wheat Growers locations win safety awards
Eight Wheat Growers locations have been honored with the Meritorious Achievement award at the South Dakota Safety & Health Conference Governor’s Safety Awards luncheon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Meritorious Achievement awards are given for superior safety performance. This recognition adds to the accomplishments of the Wheat Growers cooperative and further verifies the leadership and outstanding business practices that earned the co-op the 2012 Agricultural Retailer Association Retailer of the Year award.
The Wheat Growers South Dakota locations that received awards were: Carpenter, Huron Fertilizer and Grain, Kennebec, Miller, West Terminal - Aberdeen, Willow Lake, Woonsocket and Yale.
Since 1993, the annual Governor’s Safety Awards has recognized employers with superior safety records. Employers submit workplace injury data that is compared with state and national data and the entrant’s past performance. Ongoing safety programs and activities are also considered.
“It is especially fitting that Wheat Growers locations receive the Governor’s Safety Award as we head into harvest,” Bill Spreeman, Wheat Growers vice president, safety, environmental and regulatory affairs, said. “One of Wheat Growers’ core values is a commitment to a positive safety culture. These eight locations are fine examples of how we take that core value to heart every day.”
