The Irrigation Association’s partnership with water providers, known as SWAT or Smart Water Application Technologies, has a new mission statement. Following a strategic planning session, the Promotions Working Group developed an updated mission to better describe their activities:

To facilitate collaboration among water utilities, the irrigation industry, and other interested parties to identify, test and promote innovative irrigation technologies and related best practices that improve water-use efficiency.

The new statement was approved by SWAT’s Executive Task Team in July and signifies renewed momentum for the program. At its July meeting, the promotions group reviewed plans for a new and improved SWAT website focused on the water provider. New features will include an updated reporting system for tested products, short case studies for water savings, and new marketing materials that can be used by water providers or anyone promoting water-efficient products in their community. The target launch date for the new site is October 2014.

The group also made plans for its upcoming presentation at WaterSmart Innovations, Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Las Vegas, and discussed plans for monthly communication on SWAT activities.
