Sample personalized license plate supporting California Agriculture California has a new message that will be hitting the highways and byways next month: the Golden State has more to offer than miles of suburb coastline and Hollywood. It also happens to be the country’s leading agricultural state.

California is the No. 1 milk-producing state in the U.S.

According to the Mercury News, a new commemorative license place for “California Agriculture” will be available and on the millions of vehicles in the state starting in March. It is the state’s first specialty license place since 2002 and puts the words “food, fiber, fuel, flora” front and center.

Proceeds from the license plate campaign will go to the National FFA and other agricultural education programs.   

"We need new farmers in California because the average age of a farmer in our state is nearing 60, but the need to fill other jobs connected to farming is profound," Steve Lyle, a spokesman for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, told the Mercury News. "We want young people to have all the educational opportunities they can."

More than 8,000 people have signed up for the plates, primarily thanks to a grassroots campaign by the state’s FFA chapters.

The plate costs between $50 and $98 in addition to normal registration fees, depending on personalization requests. A portion of the purchase price and subsequent renewal fees is considered a charitable contribution. Click here to learn more about the plates.
