On-the-go Mobile Weather offered by John Deere

ANKENY, IOWA — Detecting the weather conditions on the go has become a feature that ag retailers and custom applicators are seeing as extremely important in today’s regulated application business, and the electronics for this weather-condition monitoring has become readily available from John Deere.
Making decisions about how and if application can be made based on weather conditions is an easy decision when John Deere Mobile Weather is mounted to a John Deere or other brand of applicator, as explained during a recent media event at the John Deere demonstration farm near Ankeny, Iowa. Sensors are mounted on the applicator so that wind speed, wind direction, temperature, Delta T and relative humidity can be captured as data during an application process. There is no need to stop the applicator and take manual readings, and pre-set warnings will let an operator know that conditions are outside optimum conditions.
The Mobile Weather is connected to the John Deere Application Controller 1120 and then runs through the John Deere GreenStar 2 or GreenStar 3 displays. “However, only the GreenStar 3 2630 Display is capable of documenting (recording) weather data, which can be transferred to Apex or other third-party farm management software for analysis and recordkeeping,” explained spokesmen for the Intelligent Solutions Group at John Deere that invented the monitoring system.
This data collection capability is really important for commercial applicators because of all the requirements for “recordkeeping, documentation and data analysis, or for maintaining government compliance,” said Janae Althouse, product manager with the Intelligent Solutions Group, during the media conference.
The software and hardware improves the efficiency and effectiveness of sprayer applications in many ways. “It increases compliance, saves time and trips across the field and reduces the need for weather-related reapplication of products,” said Althouse.
