A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction Monday against a Georgia illegal immigration law temporarily blocking the provision that would allow police to inquire about immigration status when questioning suspects in criminal investigations and many other situations.

“The apparent legislative intent is to create such a climate of hostility, fear, mistrust and insecurity that all illegal aliens will leave Georgia,” wrote ruling U.S. District Judge Thomas Thrash, Jr.

All provisions of law HB 87 was scheduled to go into effect last Friday. Details of the ruling and background are provided in a CNN.com article. Read the article here.
