Australia never has been a big producer of potash fertilizer, but a company has evaluated the potential and is now planning to develop the country’s first large operation potash mine.

A western Australian exploration company, Potash West NL, has been established to find potash reserves and establish a potash mining operation, according to Industrial Info Resources (IIR) of Sugar Land, Texas.

“With Australia's long history as a major agricultural producer and exporter, it is surprising that the country's history as a producer of potash, the main use for which is fertilizer, is very limited,” noted IIR.
