EPA expands Lorox DF applications

NovaSource, the crop protection business unit of Tessenderlo Kerley, Inc. (TKI) announced changes to its Lorox DF herbicide label. 
 
Under the expanded Section 3 label, recently accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lorox DF Herbicide can now be used nationally to control broadleaf and grass weeds in a variety of dry peas, including chickpeas, lentils, and field peas. Other new minor crops have also been added.
 
The Section 3 comes after several years of an Emergency Exemption Section 18 Supplemental Label for lentils in certain counties in Washington and Idaho where Lorox DF was proven  to be effective in controlling resistant biotypes of mayweed chamomile and prickly lettuce.
 
Under the new dry pea section of the label, a single application of up to two pounds of Lorox DF per acre, depending on soil type, can be made after planting but before crop emergence to control a long list of weeds including mayweed chamomile and prickly lettuce. Lorox DF can also be tank mixed with other herbicides registered for use on these crops to control additional weed species.
 
In addition to dry peas, the expanded label for Lorox DF adds uses for celeriac, coriander, dill, horseradish, parsley and rhubarb. See the product label for additional information about  specific use directions and weeds controlled.
 
According to Mike DeRiso, marketing manager for NovaSource, the expanded federal label for Lorox DF gives producers another important tool to use in controlling tough to control broadleaf and grass weeds in their fields.
 
“Linuron, the active ingredient in Lorox DF, has long been proven to be an effective herbicide in a wide range of crops and applications,” DeRiso says. “With the growing concern over herbicide resistant weeds, Lorox DF can be an effective alternative that provides good residual control and crop tolerance.”
