Corn planting behind average but progressing

Mississippi State University Extension Wet weather may have slowed farmers, but corn planting progress was made in a handful of the nation’s top corn-growing states.

According to Monday’s Crop Progress report, 3 percent of the nation’s corn has been planted. This is 1 percentage point above last year’s pace but 3 percentage points below the five-year average.

In total, eight states have reported some progress in planting corn:

Currently 32 percent of the corn growing in the United States is within an area experiencing drought, as reported by the Ag in Drought report. Kansas, Nebraska and Texas have the highest percentage of corn growing in moderate or worse drought. Click here for more.
