Contract awarded for seed corn sorting
Tomra Sorting Food, a sensor-based sorting technologies company, has entered into an agreement valued at approximately $3.5 million for 2013 to supply optical sorting equipment for seed corn processing plants in Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, Hungary, and France.
Tomra is definitely proud of earning the business and made the announcement even though the Fortune 500 provider of agricultural products hiring it did not agree to be identified. The agreement is a multi-year contract with similar orders projected for 2014 and beyond for optical sorting equipment for seed corn processing plants.
Ashley Hunter, business stream director food, commented: “We are delighted this order has come to fruition after working very closely over a number of years to provide technologies for our customers’ seed corn application. Through working together for an extended period of time Tomra has proven our value proposition in terms of sorting performance and global support, thus winning this multi-year contract”.
The company’s “Odenberg Zea” is a new sensor-based sorter for seed corn producers to inspect and sort ears of corn by husk, defect, disease and size. It is the ideal efficiency, quality and cost reduction tool for processors where capacity, husk and defect sorts are critical, the company claims.
The company further claims another significant factor in winning this order is Tomra’s global support network with the ability to provide local support where seed corn is processed.
“The ZEA has been adapted perfectly to provide an excellent sort for seed corn; and customer collaboration has definitely been a differentiator in making this product such a success”, explained Hunter.
