The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and its Resource magazine have announced the winners of the 2013 AE50 awards.
The awards recognize the world’s best technology innovations introduced in 2012 for the agricultural, food and biological systems industries. ASABE Executive Director Darrin Drollinger noted a strong showing of information and electronic technologies among the year’s standouts. “The winning products this year focus heavily on controls, electronics, management systems, advanced machines and input/output monitoring,” said Drollinger. A complete list of the 2013 AE50 winners can be found online.
It is interesting to note winning products that have a use by AgProfessional’s target audiences—crop consultants, farm managers and ag retailers. Several companies that advertise in AgProfessional and have also been written about in the magazine are winners.
The AE50 awards will be presented at a luncheon on January 28, 2013, during ASABE’s Agricultural Equipment Technology Conference, in Kansas City, Mo. ASABE is partnering with Ag Connect and its owner, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, to honor the “best of the best” with gold and silver awards chosen from among the 2012 and 2013 AE50 award winners. A limited number of these new awards will be presented at the opening ceremonies of Ag Connect Expo & Summit on January 29, 2013. The gold and silver awards are a new level of recognition for winners of the AE50 awards.
Now in its 26th year, the AE50 awards program has been encouraging and applauding engineering achievements since 1984. It is the only program of its kind. Entries are submitted by companies of all sizes and varying “inventive focus,” and the 50 winners are seen as products bringing clear advancements to the marketplace, such as improved efficiency and user safety, and reduced labor and costs. According to the contest rults, “Entries are evaluated by a blue-ribbon, international panel of industry experts in technology, design and product development.”
ASABE is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. Its members, from more than 100 countries, are consultants, managers, researchers, and others who have the training and experience “to understand the interrelationships between technology and living systems.”
