AGERpoint, a developer of information management solutions for growers of tree and vine-based crops, announced a joint effort with Durand Wayland, a leading supplier of specialized products in agriculture. In partnering together, AGERpoint and Durand Wayland are working to bring the next generation of intelligent sprayer systems to market for growers of permanent crops such as apples, pecans or citrus.
A New Take on the Air Blast Sprayer
Durand Wayland has established itself as the go-to brand for thousands of growers when it comes to air-blast orchard sprayers. Building on Durand Wayland's current orchard sprayer line, AGERpoint has added its innovative GPS-based mapping technology into the mix, creating the industry's first GPS-guided, variable rate, air blast sprayer.
Available as both a retrofit kit and as a new installation, this product will give growers unprecedented control and oversight of the spraying process, helping to ensure the health and productivity of their crops.
With GPSpray, growers will be able to control and monitor the sprayer via an in cab console. According to AGERpoint president, Thomas McPeek, this product will result in some sizeable benefits for growers of all sizes.
"The use of this system will allow growers to dramatically reduce waste by spraying only where there are actually trees, vines or shrubs, benefiting both the bottom line and the environment. The system will also automatically complete compliancy paperwork associated with chemical application, reducing error and time spent on documentation."
A Promising Future of Innovative Solutions
Moving forward, AGERpoint and Durand Wayland will continue to develop ground-breaking solutions, while improving and expanding on existing technologies in the agricultural sector.
According to the team at Durand Wayland, this partnership is a perfect formula for productivity and they look forward to working with AGERpoint in bringing the next generation of Smart Spray management tools to market. "We at Durand Wayland are excited to be a part of the next step in Precision Agriculture with accurate GPSpraying of tree crops. The information and savings that can be obtained from this system are on the leading edge of technology.
The GPSpray™ system tracks where the operator has sprayed, time of application, as well as the quantities and types of material applied. GPSpray™ sprays the trees by size and/or variety that are chosen grower.
There are three spray zones per side spraying different height trees and not the spaces between trees. The chemical savings alone is quite substantial and it is environmentally friendly too."
